All you need to know about High Tea!

What is High Tea?

It is a meal time derived from the British tradition of drinking tea while sitting in high-backed chairs at a table full of plated items. (What is High Tea? Food Republic, 2016) 

High Tea started as something for the royals and aristocrats to take in the afternoon in a leisurely fashion while seated in posh chairs. However, the Industrial revolution took the UK in the 18th century, it meant that most factory workers were further away from their homes and needed a break from work by 6pm that included food and tea. Thus high tea crossed class divides and became a regular happening for workers. (What is High Tea? Food Republic, 2016) 

What is involved in a High Tea? 

The social event includes foods such as cold meats, vegetables, pickled fish, potatoes, salads, pies, tart, homemade bread or crackers and fruitcakes all served on stunning fine china.  (How is High Tea different from Afternoon Tea? The Spruce Eats 2019) 

Usually, High Tea’s include a light sparkling wine or champagne served in  gorgeous stemware to compliment the food and tea at the party!
